Memoria
Raku fired ceramic
About this work
Raku firing is an act of surrender — the maker relinquishes control to fire and smoke, accepting whatever marks the process leaves behind. Memoria embraces this philosophy, allowing the unpredictable crackle of the glaze and the carbon deposits to become integral to the work's identity.
Each piece carries the memory of its making in its surface.

Creative Process
The raku process begins with a rapid firing to around 1000°C, followed by removal of the red-hot piece from the kiln. The piece is then placed in combustible material — sawdust and newspaper — creating the distinctive carbon markings and metallic lustres that define raku ware.
